History

Oceanside was founded in 1798 and was originally known as “King of Missions”. The Mission San Luis Rey historical landmark can be toured throughout the week, along with the city’s California Surf Museum.

Oceanside’s rich surf history plays out in multiple annual events including the Annual World Bodysurfing Championships and Ironman Oceanside which takes advantage of its calm waters. It’s also home to one of the area’s largest Dia de Los Muertos festivals.
